Lazy stoner Dale Denton (Seth Rogen) has only one reason to visit his equally lazy dealer Saul Silver (James Franco): to purchase weed, specifically, a rare new strain called Pineapple Express. But when Dale becomes the only witness to a murder by a crooked cop (Rosie Perez) and the city's most dangerous drug lord (Gary Cole), he panics and dumps his roach of Pineapple Express at the scene. Dale now has another reason to visit Saul: to find out if the weed is so rare that it can be traced back to him. And it is. As Dale and Saul run for their lives, they quickly discover that they're not suffering from weed-fueled paranoia; incredibly, the bad guys really are hot on their trail and trying to figure out the fastest way to kill them both. All aboard the Pineapple Express.

Cast and Crew Quotes

"It's the funniest film I've ever worked on."
- Amber Heard

"I loved it. It was the funnest set I'd ever been on. It was the only comedy I'd done at that point. It was all improv. There was a script but no real lines for us. It's not hard working off people like Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow and James Franco. But, I went in expecting that I was going to be funny, I was going to have fun, laugh all day long because I'm the drama queen, literally and all I do is cry in my films and scream and get killed or whatever. I get on set and what does the director tell me? I'm crying the whole movie! He tells me to burst into tears and be neurotic so, irony? I don't know but it was a lot of fun."
- Amber Heard

"I play Seth Rogen's girlfriend. There weren't any real female characters written into this script other than myself and one other that I can remember and we both have smaller roles when compared to the boys, like many of Judd Apatow's movies. The women are not very important in the sense of things. I play his girlfriend, a slightly neurotic girl that he happens to be dating. You're wondering why, on both of our ends."
- Amber Heard

"It's brilliant, it's everything you would expect out of a Judd Apatow comedy, but Seth is beyond what you'd expect. He's brilliant. It's very improvisational, very real, but very funny and I just love how they make things that wouldn't normally be funny, funny. Take two guys smoking pot, you know, normally it's not that funny, just how it is, but they take these normal things and they run with it and they do really funny things with it. They're really funny guys and they're hilarious."
- Amber Heard

"Seth is amazing. I had more fun on that set than I've ever had. Of course!"
- Amber Heard

"It definitely required a sense of humour... But I don't think I'm funny at all. That's the most hilarious thing." [On the comedy improv.]
- Amber Heard

"I cry [laughs]. I thought, "This is my comedy! Judd Apatow, Seth Rogen, I'm going to have just the best time on set. I'm going to spend all my time laughing." So I was so excited jumping into this movie. And then I get there and I pretty much cry the whole movie. I mean, it's funny. But this was supposed to be my comedy film! And I cry in every film. I get to these dramatic horrible places. And day's worth of crying is hard work!"
- Amber Heard

"You know how Judd Apatow writes women. It's very specific in the sense that the men play one role and it's very true and honest. But the women play a character, a role as opposed to authentic people. They're always neurotic, bitchy, slightly off...I'm one of those girls in Pineapple Express, so it's very funny. But I'm still crying every day!"
- Amber Heard

"The funniest set I've ever been on, of course!"
- Amber Heard

"The whole movie, at least my part and every time that I was on set, was based almost solely on improv. I actually don't think I looked at a script once after I'd read the plot and got the idea of the film and where they wanted to go with it. Those guys are all very trusting to Seth and they're very, very trusting to him. So, on the set we wouldn't even bring our lines with us. It was just start here and end up there and go home."
