Directed by Matthew Leutwyler, The River Why is a drama based on the novel by David James Duncan about a man known as “the Mozart of fly fishing” who leaves his big city home in rebellion from his family. In the process he comes in contact with an assortment of eccentric characters who help him in his journey to adulthood. The film stars Zach Gilford, Amber Heard, William Hurt, Kathleen Quinlan and William Devane.

Some of the interview was also released via their official website and in it, Amber discusses filming The Rum Diary, why she loves the horror genre so much and her beloved car.

“I love fast cars, loud guns and classic rock ’n’ roll, but I’d never do any of it in flats. I love me a nice, big uncomfortable pair of heels and some big hair! Maybe it’s a Southern thing, but I love dressing up. It’s everything I can do not to leave the house in a goddamn prom dress every day.”

Amber was also in a good bit of the special features, including two documentaries (about the filming and make-up process) and a deleted scene. These are found on the single disc edition. I’m aware there is a two-disc version of the flick, but I haven’t got around to buying it yet. Drive Angry, a Nu Image/Millennium project that is eyeing a shoot this month in Shreveport, La., centers on a man (Cage) driven by rage who is chasing the people who killed his daughter and kidnapped her baby. The 3D pic (which will be directed by Patrick Lussier from a script by Todd Farmer) pits a felon named Milton (Cage) against a group of vicious cult fanatics who not only murdered his daughter, but plan to sacrifice his infant granddaughter beneath a full moon. Armed with his turbo-charged Black ‘71 Challenger, there’s going to be some hell to pay.

Drive Angry shoots in Shreveport, Louisiana next month. Summit will release the film on February 11, 2011.

Morse joins Nicholas Cage, Amber Heard, and William Fichtner in the film, though no details of his role have been released just yet. Considering the guy is a master at playing the villain, predictions are he’ll be playing a villain here once again.

Shooting in a month’s time in Louisiana, Drive Angry will be Lussier’s second ‘3D’ film following last year’s successful My Bloody Valentine. The filmmaker is also attached to a third 3D film, the zombie-epic Condition Dead, and last year was being courted to helm a third installment in The Weinstein’s newly rebooted Halloween series (Which I don’t believe is going ahead now, not with Lussier anyway – pity, he might’ve been about to rescue that flippin’ decaying series).

Burke’s other credits include the Twilight films, Untraceable with Diane Lane, Feast of Love and Ladder 49.

The film stars Leighton Meester and Amber Heard with more cast to be announced shortly. It is billed as a sassy, wild drama, full of shoot-em-ups, wisecracks, car chases and bar brawls. It is produced by Paul Schiff, Tai Duncan and Katherine Brown.

“This project is fresh, fun and timely and I¹m looking forward to working with Jess, Leighton, Amber, Jamie and the rest of the team,” producers Schiff and Duncan said in a statement.

“This is going to be a whole lot of bank robbing fun – it is girl power with guns! We’re very excited to be working with Paul, Tai and Jess,” said Content’s Jamie Carmichael.

I’m kind of a bit iffy on the news personally, if it does come into fruition with Amber cast. I think it could be a cool, enjoyable – pulp esque picture, but at the same time it could also just turn out to be quite bad or too hoakey in the grand scheme of things. Also horror is my personal favorite genre so I’m happy Amber is continuing to find pretty diverse projects within the genre, but I also hope she will continue to branch out and challenge herself as always. While I don’t think any of us mind the thoughts of Ms. Heard in 3D, I hope she’s not going to just be known as the go-to horror girl nowadays!

“It’s hyper pulpy. It’s kind of like hyper-pulp, just kind of blood drenched, heavy, heavy car chase action that if you’re a fan of early Shane Black scripts,” De Luca tells Collider, referring to films like Lethal Weapon. “If you’re a fan of from the 70’s Two Lane Blacktop or Vanishing Point and you’re a fan of Dust ‘Til Dawn or Sin City, this kind of like glorious exhiltation of pulp movie-making. It aspires to be in that cannon, so that’s my torch way of describing why I’m excited by it because I like all those things. And Drive Angry to me had a blend of things I liked about Two Lane Blacktop and Duel and Vanishing Point and things I loved about ‘Dust ’til Dawn’ and things I loved about Sin City. And where we’re not as opulent as some of those films, we’re trying to be of that spirit.”

In terms of violence, it will be “a hard-R” and will feature “Car parts and body parts flying at you in 3-D.”
