Tasya van Ree has directed a beautiful black and white short film titled starring her girlfriend, Amber Heard. Titled Amber Heard – Death of Me, it is gorgeously filmed with stunning, intimate shots featuring an enigmatic and seductive, yet tender and loving, femme fatale, personified by Amber. The camera just loves her – and it has been a while, I feel, that we’ve seen Amber appear this open, relaxed and natural in film. Check out the video in glorious high definition on YouTube or under the cut. It is definitely a must see for all of the fans!

Here’s to hoping that Tasya and Amber will collaborate on other short films in the future because I simply love this one!

What a lovely surprise! Amber Heard is on the cover of Ocean Drive magazine’s September 2010 issue. Scans, thanks to ‘picoloro’ and photoshoot have been added to the gallery – it is fabulously stunning as always! The article is quite short but have a read in our library. Lastly, you can also watch a behind the scenes video of Amber on the set of the shoot after the break.

“There’s a huge group of people in Hollywood whose job it is to go out and act wild. My job has nothing to do with that. It’s weird, the voyeuristic approach to celebrity these days. People like to live vicariously, I guess. I’m saddened, though, when I see young women making a career out of embarrassing themselves in public. I draw that line at what you can probably find about me on the Internet” – Amber Heard

I got my copy of The Joneses yesterday and immediately made screencaps of Amber Heard’s role as Jenn Jones.

I was quite disappointed that Amber’s role was not as prominent in the movie as I assumed for it to be. Yes, she does appear in a handful of scenes but in the end, she doesn’t have very much to do, does she? It is a pity because Jenn is a really interesting character and I would have loved for the movie to explore her more – same goes for the character of Mick. I found the two ‘children’ to be the most intriguing characters in The Joneses. Regardless, Amber does a great job and looks incredibly gorgeous in the movie.

Unfortunately the UK R2 DVD includes no special features whatsoever. Can anyone within the US confirm whether or not the R1 DVD has special features that include Amber?

Please note that the screencaps feature a little bit of tasteful nudity so if you’re underage or offended by a pair of boobs, do not enter this album. Thanks.

John Carpenter is making a long-awaited return to the big screen with the world premiere of The Ward at the Toronto International Film Festival. The Ward is a thriller about a young woman, played by Amber Heard, in a 1960s mental institution who becomes terrorized by malevolent unseen forces. The movie is part of Toronto’s Midnight Madness sidebar. No word whether or not Amber will attend the premiere but I do think it is safe to say it is likely she will.

The Toronto International Film Festival is set to run from September 9 to 19.

I was really eager to see Amber in this ‘de-glamorized’ role and she still looks absolutely gorgeous! I am really excited to see her on screen with Zach Gilford who I think is also very talented. Check it out for yourself below the page break. Thanks to Jessica for informing us that the trailer was available!

The River Why is an adaptation of the 1983 Sierra Club novel by David James Duncan. The coming-of-age tale centers on a young man named Gus Orviston (Zach Gilford) and his quest for an elusive rainbow trout, which is a metaphor for the man’s internal search for self-knowledge. Heard plays his love interest, a tomboy fly-fisher named Eddy.

Drive Angry is the latest 3D action-adventure from director Patrick Lussier and starring Nicolas Cage as Milton, a hardened felon who has broken out of hell for one last chance at redemption. Intent on stopping a vicious cult, led by Jonah King (Billy Burke), who murdered his daughter, he has three days to stop them before they sacrifice her baby beneath a full moon.

During a press conference held after their Hall H panel at Comic-Con, co-stars Nicolas Cage, Amber Heard (who plays sexy, young waitress Piper) and William Fichtner (who plays an enigmatic killer known only as “The Accountant,” sent by the Devil to retrieve Milton) talked about the appeal of this project and what it was like to adjust their performance to the 3D technology while they were filming. Check out what they had to say after the jump:

Question: Nicolas, as an actor, what was the appeal of this project?

Nicolas: The first thing I would offer is that this is a movie that hails from ‘70s classic films, like High Plains Drifter, and other movies that were a major factor in my decision to become a film actor. And then, on top of that, it’s in 3D and directed by one of the pioneers in this day and age of 3D, with Patrick Lussier. He’s a purist, so I knew it would be in the camera and that I would have an opportunity to try to work with the 3D camera and see how that would inform my performance, with different body language and different ways I could play with the format. That was a big draw for me.

What is the essence of this character for you?

Nicolas: I try to keep my characters raising more questions than giving answers. I don’t want to leave too much on the table. I want you to have your connection and your secret understanding of the character, so I hesitate to talk too much about anything specific about him.

Why do you think the aspect of retribution resonates so strongly with an audience?

Nicolas: Because everybody gets angry. Everyone feels like they’re being tested or they’ve gone through trials in life and, especially when loved ones are involved, this fierce, protective nature comes alive. This is happening in Milton. He’s on a mission to save this little child.

Do you consider Drive Angry one of your midnight movies, like Wild at Heart and Vampire’s Kiss?

Nicolas: Absolutely. I definitely feel that Drive Angry fits into that audience. I think my love for those kinds of films is the intensity and the adrenaline of them. They don’t compromise. They’re honest and they give it everything they have. I used to enjoy punk rock music, and I feel like it’s that kind of relentless intensity that I respond to. I feel that Drive Angry achieves that. I haven’t seen the finished result yet, but I’m very excited by the footage that I’ve seen. I do think that this movie is really in your face, it’s tough and it’s cool, and I’m excited about that.

How different was it to actually shoot this film in 3D?

Nicolas: For me, there’s no fun in [converting it later]. If you shellac the movie, I have nothing to do with it. It gives me no opportunity to work with the 3D camera. That way, it’s in post. This way, it’s a much more collaborative experience, where the actors get to work with the director and with the camera, and talk about it. Therefore, it’s exciting. Otherwise, I really have nothing to do with it, as an actor.

Were there specific ways it affected your performance?

Nicolas: In terms of perspective, I wanted to know how I was going to become friends with this new mechanism and machine. I would talk with Patrick and ask, “Can I move like this?” I even went so far, at one point, to try to stick my tongue out all the way, so I could get into the fourth row of the audience to see if that would have an affect. I don’t know if it made it into the movie or not. But, my point is that it’s that relationship with perspective in the camera, body language, dance and movement, and I wanted to see if there was anything we could do with that.

Amber: Elaborating on that, for me, part of it was feeling like you were a part of the audience, in a way, because you were participating actively while you were filming something. Acting and participating in how it’s going to be viewed later puts me in the audience’s position, and that was an interesting to go about filming something. I also know that we had certain shots, because this movie was conceived in 3D and not converted, where we had the privilege and opportunity to manipulate some of our actions and blocking around how it would be viewed later. I threw some punches directly into the lens and I backed the car up almost over the camera a couple of times, to create effects with specific results that it will achieve for the audience, viewing the film in 3D. I haven’t seen good examples of movies that have been converted later. I see a lot of good 3D that were shot in 3D, but it’s harder to convert something and maintain the quality, no matter what you’re converting.

William: It didn’t have any affect for me, as far as what the scene was and how we were going to play it, or what we were thinking about. But, as we went on and certain actions would come up, Patrick would say, “There was this very interesting thing that you just did in rehearsal when you moved this way and it was very cool,” because I wouldn’t know that. I wasn’t thinking about that, certainly in the beginning. As time went on, you would realize, “Oh, this is probably one of those moments.” I specifically remember Patrick saying one day, “If you turn sideways and keep that arm close to your body, it’s really cool.” That’s all I needed to know. I can make that happen. I trusted that and just went with it.

Nicolas, what do you think of 3D movies of the past, in comparison to 3D movies of today?

Nicolas: The 3D movies in the ‘50s never worked for me. I just thought it didn’t look right. I would not go into that dimension. They just turned me off because they looked so goofy. Today, this is the time for 3D. I think Avatar really showed that, in terms of not just pop-ups, but perspective and depth. It’s almost like painting. Some of the shots that we did in Drive Angry, when I would look at the monitor, I saw those depths of field. You see the dimension. There’s no better word for it than beautiful. It’s a very beautiful format for filmmaking.

Amber, what was it like to do such a physical role?

Amber: It’s one of the only movies where I’ve actually gotten to kick some ass, but it’s surprisingly not too far from home. I’m from Texas, and guns and fist fights are all part of the gig. Everything from the hot rod to the cowboy boots was close to home for me. I was happy.

Do you think roles are changing and becoming stronger for women?

Amber: Yeah, I’m excited by that. I’m excited that more writers like Todd [Farmer] and directors like Patrick [Lussier] are more willing to see a woman as something other than a victim, and that leaves a woman to be her own person and her own character, and not need to be saved. For me, as a woman, that’s particularly interesting because it’s easy to get bored by the bathing suit roles, not that I’m shy of those either. I’m honored to do something other than just lounge around in a bikini. This is really cool for me. I got to flip cars, shoot guns, run my mouth and get into fist fights. I was in heaven.

Which was your favorite car in this film?

Nicolas: I always preferred the Chevelle. It just has a gorgeous aesthetic. But, I predominantly drive a Charger in this movie, which is also beautiful. My character prefers a Chevelle as well, so it works.

Amber: I’m all about the Charger, baby. I think that was part of what interested me. They were like, “There’s a ‘69 Charger,” and I was like, “Okay, I’ll do it.”

William: I liked my hydrogen tanker. I really did. It had 152 speeds, and I only needed to get through seven of them. There were six of those cars, and I’d really like to have one.

William, do you feel like you’re always playing a bad guy?

William: I don’t think I’ve ever played a part where I thought the character was a bad guy. If I thought he was just bad for bad’s sake, I’m quite sure I wouldn’t know what to do with it. But, I like characters where there’s something going on and something to make him real. If you find out what somebody cares about, all of a sudden, the whole world opens up. I remember the first time I read this script, there was a moment up in the guard tower with Amber and I tell her to go, and that was the moment for me where I found that grounded thing. Whatever that sensibility is for that character, he has a sense of right and wrong. When I find that, it means the world to me. You can go back and forward from there and fill in the blanks and hopefully find a real guy, no matter what he’s going through.

What’s next for you?

William: I don’t know what’s next. I’m working on something that I’m writing. I have to clean my garage.

Amber, do you feel like genre films have stronger roles for women?

Amber: This seems like an action film to me. It does have supernatural elements to it, but in terms of strong female characters, that’s why I’m doing this job. I would be a model, if I didn’t want to do something. For me, the genre serves sometimes as a good vehicle for young women in this business to actually have a role. It might not always be saving the day, but you certainly get to more than just play the girlfriend in horror films and thrillers. I’m drawn to them because I actually get to do something in them, most of the time. And, this one was on a different level completely. Piper, my character, is this bad-ass, potty-mouth, Daisy Duke-wearing, Charger-driving, gun-toting motherfucker, and she doesn’t take any shit. Where else am I going to find that? This is the only script I’ve ever read with those elements.

Nicolas, what is your character’s relationship with anger?

Nicolas: It’s really not that simple for me. I can’t encapsulate everything about Milton in the word anger. There are other things also motivating his drive. Hopefully, when you see the movie, there are other dimensions to the character. It’s more like a sense of otherness and a purpose, but the anger is an anger that’s a residual anger of something that happened in another life. I’ve probably said too much.

Can you talk about the relationship between Milton and Piper?

Nicolas: Piper provides the heart in the movie. When you see the movie, you’ll see what Amber did with that so beautifully. There is another element that may surprise you, where the film actually has a pretty deep, strong heart that’s not romantic. It’s like a partnership. It would be great if we could do another film because I love that relationship between Milton and Piper.

Amber: I’m in!

There’s a twist and a half in The Joneses, an edgy new comedy starring Demi Moore and David Duchovny. The Joneses have moved in next door. They are beautiful, rich, and enviably kitted out. The neighbors want to be them, have what they have, and borrow a little of their perfection.

However, illicit sex, commercialism, and power struggles crack the carefully groomed Jones façade. Twenty three year old Amber Heard, a rising star in Hollywood’s youth brigade, plays the sex obsessed fashionista daughter who beds men twice her age.

Heard told Monsters & Critics that she immediately related to Jenn Jones.

“The first act of the film you start to notice that something is really off. My character is desperately seeking affection. She realizes she’s just looking to understand love. She’s a vulnerable character that’s cheeky and tough on the outside. There were some layers there and I thought it was a real character that made sense not just to me but to a lot of girls.”

Heard has ways of dealing with life’s ups and downs and she approached the role armed with things that inspire her.

“My religion is philosophers, poets, artists, and thinkers, especially Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead. I don’t need anything else. I don’t need to aim for a thing or a place or an old set of rules or systems, I don’t need to be told constantly I am going to be punished or rewarded that I don’t need anything else. This life is the best one I could imagine having and I’m going to treat it like it’s the only one I have.”

Heard stands out in the monotony of Hollywood’s pretty young things thanks to a strong sense of self.

“I think there is a healthy amount of alienation that I’ve always felt from the settings I was in. I was raised in a religious environment and in a very strict religious academy my whole life. I was kicked out. I was fervently against religious principals from as early as I could think on. I challenged the system.”

Heard challenges the status quo as a seeker and a glamorous starlet making her way in an industry that worships the latter but not the former. She says one doesn’t negate the other.

“It’s easy to be in a movie and go out with your classmates and be at a Hollywood premiere and go to the clubs and do the drugs and go to work the next morning. It is easy to party and show your personal life out like it’s your dirty laundry and mistake the attention for affection.”

Heard’s self confidence lead directly to her biggest role to date. She will play Johnny Depp’s lover in The Rum Diary, a role she aggressively pursued with phone calls, letters, and emails. That will take her a giant step closer to the spotlight. As long as she’s packing The Fountainhead, things should be fine.

Photographer <a href="http://www.tasyavanree.com/" target=_"blank">Tasya van Ree has shared some new images on her official site and <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tasya-van-Ree-ARTIST/131110610260350?ref=sgm" target=_"blank">Facebook that feature some stunning new shots of Amber Heard. Amber is a frequent subject of Tasya’s, who she references as her “muse.” She told <a href="http://www.afterellen.com/people/2010/8/tasya-van-ree?page=0,1" target=_"blank">AfterEllen.com that Amber is to her as “Gala is to Salvador Dali, Kiki de Montparnasse is to Man Ray, Beatrice is to Dante Alighieri.” Quite the compliment if you ask me – and who could blame her!

Van Ree’s new exhibit, “<a href="http://tasyavanree.blogspot.com/2010/07/untitled-project.html" target=_"blank">Untitled Project,” debuts at L.A.’s Celebrity Vault on August 11. It’s likely Amber will be attending so hopefully we will have some new event pictures of her next week. Tasya says it’s a collection of portraits that she’s taken over the last year. She describes them as “a showcase of randomness, staged performances, intimate moments, candid gestures, pondering expressions, seductive revelations, playful demeanors, and so forth.”

To view some of those stunning images check out her Facebook or official site by clicking the image below.

According to <a href="http://www.afterellen.com/people/2010/8/tasya-van-ree?page=0,1" target=_"blank">AfterEllen, who interviewed Tasya van Ree (who was also co-hosting the protest with Amber), the protest has since been called off.

Also you are probably well aware that Proposition 8 has been deemed unconstitutional and in violation of the protection clause of the 14th Amendment. We are sure Amber is very happy – as are we! – about the overturning since she’s been an active supporter of equality for Californians.

Amber Heard is organizing an impromptu gathering to promote the <a href="http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/event.php?eid=145724448782350&ref=mf" target=_"blank">Target/Best Buy boycott in response to their support of anti-LGBT political candidates.

Target has publicly given over $250,000 in campaign donations to very anti-LGBT candidates, like Tom Emmer. They refuse to publicly retract that donation, match it to pro-LGBT candidates, or otherwise justify their actions. Given the location of the Target/Best Buy in West Hollywood, we have a unique “home field advantage” to gather support and inform a very pro-LGBT community of these circumstances.

Show your support for equality with Amber this Saturday, August 7th, from 1pm-4pm. The event will be held on the sidewalk outside of Best Buy in West Hollywood, CA. (Corner of Santa Monica & La Brea). You are asked to bring whatever materials (signs, pamphlets, etc) you can. Spread the word!

If any fan/supporter will be attending the event, please leave a comment below!

Here’s a little catch up on Amber Heard’s upcoming projects:

• According to Fangoria, And Soon the Darkness will see a theatrical release in February 2011, with a DVD to follow; Studio Canal, which co-produced and co-financed the film, is handling foreign distribution.

• Film School Rejects is reporting that, according to Aaron Eckhart, The Rum Diary has also been pushed back to 2011. Eckhart sounded pretty unsure about the release date, and he had this to say:

“I don’t know. I heard next year that’s [when] it’s going to come out. Johnny is making Pirates of the Caribbean and I think that he’s too busy to promote something right now. He’s working in Hawaii. I think they’re going to wait to put it out next year.”

• Check out the official Ward website at TheWardMovie.com – but you might want to stay away from the synopsis, which is pretty spoilery.

• Lastly, The Joneses will be released on DVD in the UK on August 16. I have pre-ordered my copy and will be making DVD screencaps of Amber’s role as soon as I receive it.

As with almost every young actress in Hollywood Amber Heard is incredibly, devastatingly gorgeous. However, unlike many of her counterparts she is also incredibly poised, surprisingly eloquent, and most unexpected of all, quite well read. In our one on one interview, Heard discusses Drive Angry, her art, her desire to be more than just the bathing suit, her love of Bret Easton Ellis and Hunter S. Thompson, and speaks frankly about her distaste for the film adaptation of The Infomers.

I just saw the footage and the concept art for Drive Angry and it looks ridiculously cool.

Heard: It is. It’s really fucking cool.

I was impressed by the scope. Up until the press release for Comic-Con I didn’t know this was supernatural. The press release just said that [Nic Cage] had broken out of prison, that he was an escaped convict.

Heard: Yeah.

So how much, is it all a supernatural film? Is it sort of revealed as we go, or do we know this from the get go?

Heard: Yeah, I think it’s kind of revealed as we go. Although I think the intention at first with marketing was to not reveal that it was supernatural. But I think that’s changing because so much of what our characters do and how they do it is based on its’ supernatural core. So I think how much their planning on revealing and how they’re planning on marketing it is changing.

So your character in the film, Piper. It looks like she’s running around, jumping on the hood of cars, firing guns. Where does she come from? Because in the footage it looks like she was introduced being attacked by someone whom Nic Cage comes along and dispatches rather quickly.

Heard: Yeah, that scene that you saw, it has Piper, she walks in on, umm…on her…umm…actually I don’t want to give that away. But she walks in on her boyfriend; the owner of this 69 Charger that becomes essentially a character in the movie. And they have a disagreement and piper does not use her words, she uses her fists. She’s got a bad attitude and a short temper, but a good heart. And I think that’s what Milton, played by Nic Cage, likes about her. And they form a sort of paternal bond. A kind of father/daughter or action hero/sidekick duo. And they fight crime and save the world.

So it’s a little bit different from the typical movie where Nic Cage would fall in love with the woman who is much too young for him.

Heard: Right, right, there’s not the romantic element there, which I liked because it really preserves the heart of this movie. This movie is a high octane action flick, but it has a heart. It has a real human element that we can all relate to and I think that’s important to remember in these movies that can be so absurd or so effects driven that they forget to have that human element that makes us care about the characters, and this doesn’t and doesn’t lose that. It has real heart and the relationship that Nic and I have really embodies that.

I’m sure you get a lot of scripts or offers where your character is just the girlfriend or just the love interest, so it must be nice to get to do something like this where you get to get up there and fight with guns and stuff.

Heard: It is. It’s my job in Hollywood to find roles where I get to be a character not a bathing suit. Don’t get me wrong; as you might have noticed from my resume, I have done the bathing suit. And I have — and don’t get me wrong — I’m grateful for all of those bathing suit roles I have been given, or been trusted with. Some have been hits, some have been misses. And I am grateful for everything. It just doesn’t interest me for too long. I would much rather be an empowered character whether it’s good or evil or anywhere in between. I’d much rather be a character who is in charge of her actions and isn’t just there for the decoration. And as an artist I want to create characters. I want to exist as some other character and not an outfit, or lack thereof.

About those roles, I actually have a poster for The Informers on my wall at home because I’m a big Bret Easton Ellis fan –

Heard: *She sighs, loudly*

Were you working closely with him on the film, or was he not too involved with it by the time you got involved?

Heard: Uh, to be honest with you, the reason I took that movie. The reason it was offered to me, the reason I took it was because I was such a Bret Easton Ellis fan. I think he’s so, he’s beautifully twisted and romantically dark, and there’s something I really, really love about the way he tells a story.

He’s so eloquent in his obscenity.

Heard: Yes! Yes, that’s exactly what it is. And I wanted to be, and I thought that I could trust a script based upon the merit of its’ writer. And the problem is you can’t trust a product based upon the merit of its’ script and you can’t trust a script based just on the merit of its’ writer because there are so many other people who make the movie. And in my case, I did a lot of things in that movie, a lot of scenes in that movie that, other than the ones that made it in. And the point, I guess, because the original storyline had been completely dropped and butchered and malformed, all they had left were nudity shots to bring people in. And so… that’s all that made it in.

I read the original screenplay actually and it was much bigger.

Heard: Yeah. You know, and I couldn’t believe how much it had been changed and altered. And I think that movie could have been something special. And I took a lot of risks in doing it because I believed in the project and I believed in the writer. And it turned out to be something else.

Well, did you read his new novel? Have you seen Imperial Bedrooms yet?

Heard: No. I am about to buy it though. I’ve heard a lot about it though.

Because a lot of it is about the making of The Informers. I really like the first half of it more than the second half. But it really has some good bits, some very precise prose. But another novel based project you have coming up is The Rum Diary, which is important to me because I’m actually named after Hunter S. Thompson.

Heard: Are you really? That’s so cool! That’s so cool. I’m a huge Hunter S. Thompson fan. And I loved The Rum Diary. It’s pure Hunter S. Thompson and not gonzo and I love, I love its’ innocence and its’ heart and its’ story and I was honored to be part of any project even slightly associated with Hunter S. Thompson. And to make it with somebody like Johnny Depp, who has and intimate connection with him personally, I was, I am, I couldn’t have found a better team. Bruce Robinson’s an amazing artist. I think he’s a brilliant writer, author, and he’s also someone I trust very much with the subject matter. So, I was, I was so excited and honored to be part of this project. I haven’t seen it, but I’m looking forward to it.

So, Johnny Depp in that isn’t playing the super gonzo version we saw in Fear and Loathing [in Las Vegas] he’s playing more of a grounded, closer to the Bill Murray version in Where the Buffalo Roam?

Heard: Yeah. I think you’ll notice in the book that it’s Hunter S. Thompson, it was his coming of age. It was his coming into his own as a writer and it was pre-gonzo really. And I think when he personifies Hunter S. Thompson he carries that because Hunter S. Thompson as a character himself hasn’t reached that yet, so.

Well, they’re telling me that we’re out of time, but it was great to talk with you.

Heard: Thank you, you too.
