Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has set a February 2 release date for the popular and hilarious Zombieland. Can the rules of Zombieland include awesome DVD extras? I think it can; Exclusive to the Blu-ray disc is Sony’s unique movieIQ feature and a picture-in-picture commentary track, dubbed ‘Beneath the Graveyard,’ which allows for access to behind-the-scenes footage, animatics and storyboards. The disc will also contain commentary with Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg, director Ruben Fleischer and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. There will also be several making-of featurettes, including ‘In Search of Zombieland‘ which is a series of visual effects progression, deleted scenes and trailers. Nifty. The DVD is set at $19.95, with the Blu-ray at $26.95. A UMD for the PlayStation Portable also will be available and the order date is Dec. 31. You can pre-order your Blu-ray copy of Zombieland right here. And what of a possible sequel? Read on for some dish. Although Amber only is featured in a cameo scene, I’d personally love to see more adventures with the hilarious Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita and Little Rock! |

Bloody-Disgusting.com, my favorite horror site, interviewed Amber and you can now check that out in the press archive.

Opening tomorrow is the horror/thriller The Stepfather. The film is about Penn Badgley’s (Gossip Girl) character returning home from military school and finding his mother living with a new boyfriend. As the two men get to know one another, Badgley’s character grows suspicious. As you might imagine, action ensues. Anyway, I got to speak with Amber Heard earlier today as she plays the Penn Badgley’s girlfriend in the movie. While readers of Collider know I prefer doing video interviews, Amber was only available for phoners, so that’s how this was done. During our short conversation, Heard talked about making The Stepfather, doing a cameo in Zombieland (she played the hot neighbor in the beginning of the film), and she also talked about playing Johnny Depp’s girlfriend in next year’s The Rum Dairy. Our conversation after the jump: |

Being chased and terrorized by a rage-driven psychopath around and under a house would seem to be a pretty stressful situation, even if it’s just for a movie. But for Amber Heard, the young actress who co-stars in Screen Gems’ new remake of The Stepfather, it was all in a day’s work. “You know, it’s just like any aspect of my job,” she says of taking part in such cinematic mayhem. “It could be very weird, but because it’s so weird so often, it becomes very, very…unweird, if that makes sense. My job is funny that way, in that I come to set every day and there are plenty of crazy things going on. That’s not really one of them that sticks out.” This statement won’t surprise anyone who has been following Heard’s career over the last few years. After attracting a wealth of positive attention in the title role of the slasher opus All The Boys Love Mandy Lane—albeit largely at festivals, since a commercial U.S. release remains stalled by distributor Senator Entertainment’s money problems—she has been all over the horror scene lately. She cuddles up to Jesse Eisenberg and then tries to eat his flesh in the current hit Zombieland, just wrapped a starring role in John Carpenter’s latest chiller The Ward and not only acted but served as a producer on another recently lensed redux, And Soon The Darkness. |

Sony knocked out its competition this weekend with a one-two punch from Zombieland with $25 million at 3,036 and 3D toon Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, which dropped to the second spot in its third frame with $16.7 million at 2,977 playdates. Zomcom easily surpassed fellow Sony pic Meatballs, earning a weekend per screen average of $8,235 with its core aud coming from 58% under 25. Sony distrib chief Rory Bruer credited the pic’s comedic aspects as the driving force among its younger aud, especially stars Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg. |
