Warner Bros.’ Where the Wild Things Are topped the domestic box office in a wild and woolly October weekend that saw a number of films thrive, driving ticket sales up as much as 40% over the same frame last year.
The Spike Jonze-helmed Wild Things, based on Maurice Sendak’s children’s classic book, played more like an adult movie than a family pic, grossing an estimated $32.5 million from 3,735 theaters. Overture Films saw its biggest opening yet with Jamie Foxx-Gerard Butler starrer Law Abiding Citizen, which took an estimated $21.3 million from 2,890 to place No. 2.
Sony/Screen Gems’ The Stepfather, the weekend’s third nationwide opener, bowed to an estimated $12.3 million from 2,734 to place No. 5 behind Paramount’s sleeper hit Paranormal Activity and Universal laffer Couples Retreat.

I’ve added three more articles to the press archives that came out today. View some excerpts below. I also got to check out The Stepfather today and you can now read my review here on the movie’s film page. I honestly didn’t like the film but if you are interested in some thoughts from a non-biased Amber fan point of view, read away! I will be writing some of my thoughts Zombieland soon.
From: IESB.net
IESB: How comfortable are you with filming love scenes or doing nudity in films? Is that difficult for you, or does that come easy, if it’s important to the story?
Amber: As you might have noticed, I’m not afraid of nudity. I think it is absurd that it’s such a taboo in today’s world. It’s nudity, come on!
From: Screenstar.com
ScreenStar: You have some great fansites out there, do you ever frequent them?
Amber Heard: I appreciate the fansites, I have a couple good ones and every once and a while someone will forward me something that they have posted. I am really thankful for them because that is a true perk of this job, having people appreciate you and what you are doing.
ScreenStar: Message to the fans.
Amber Heard: Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Bloody-Disgusting.com, my favorite horror site, interviewed Amber and you can now check that out in the press archive.
BD: Talk about filming the “buzzsaw pendulum” scene.
Amber: It was extremely difficult, so many days in that one attic and surrounding area. Tight quarters, and very dangerous terrain. A very strange process. And the saw itself was a real saw and very heavy, for when we were doing the scenes before it falls in our face. Then they put in a rubber blade, but the weight was still there. And then the saw above me was entirely rubber, and that was OK.
BD: Great. So where the hell is Mandy Lane?
Amber: That’s a good question! That movie is as hidden from my eyes as much as everyone else. Such a disappointment; I fucking LOVE that movie. And it’s a shame it’s been caught up in such distribution hell.

There are thousands of girls who would love to be Penn Badgley’s girlfriend, but only the lucky few (Blake Lively, we’re looking at you!), get the role.
Actress Amber Heard gets to play Penn’s special lady in the new thriller The Stepfather, and she was ready to dish on her on-screen relationship with the Gossip Girl star when MTV News caught up with her at the movie’s premiere.
“I’m a long term girlfriend,” she explained. “I’m member of the family in that way … He confides in me, and I’m really the only person he can trust. So we have a unique relationship.” When everything unravels though, Amber adds, “I’m there for him in a surprising way.” We’re hoping that means Amber’s Kelly goes a little Lara Croft on the titular stepfather’s a– and kicks major butt.

The first reviews of The Stepfather are in and… the reviewers are not exactly loving it. But who cares – go ahead and see it tonight to support our favorite actress and make up your own mind about the film! ;)
From FearNet.com:
It doesn’t hurt that the supporting cast includes a very strong Sela Ward (looking here like Tina Fey’s big sister), newcomer Penn Badgley (as the untrusting son Michael), and the previously mentioned Amber Heard, who is used here as little more than curvaceous window dressing — but she’s also turning out to be a surprisingly fine actress. Unfortunately this overqualified cast is left to meander through a cut & paste B-movie potboiler that offers (very) little in the way of surprises.
From DVDTalk.com:
The flagrant and crude manipulation would digest easier if the two young stars could act. Instead, Badgley looks and sound like a heavily sedated version of Mark Wahlberg (Jill Schoelen was a much feistier teen killjoy), and Heard is atrocious in a role that requires nothing more from her than the ability to tie a bikini top. These two weren’t hired for their acting gifts, I understand, but they’re in charge of nurturing the mystery. Without a pair of lively, believable spoilers stepping in David’s way, there’s no reason to invest in the nonsense.
