Amber Heard visited Young Hollywood Studios on October 12 to record an interview in promotion for her new film The Rum Diary. The interview isn’t available yet but we will be sure to post about it when it surfaces.

Amber Heard looked beyond stunning as she attended the premiere of The Rum Diary, held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in California last night. She wore a striking red Elie Saab designed floor length number with gathered detail on the bodice and a high slit to the thigh. Amber paired the strapless dress with nude Christian Louboutin peep-toes and had her hair pulled back into an elegant chignon. 160+ high quality photos from the event have now been added to the gallery. Conceptually, Chenault is a stock fantasy character, a teasingly unavailable object of desire designed to mesmerize. Many a pretty young actress could have filled this requirement, but Heard charges the standard-issue role with moments of something extra, a fleeting sense of abandon, unscripted wildness, inchoate yearning that couldn’t have been planned but emerged in a fortuitous fusion of glance, turn of the head, youthful glow, lighting and camera angle. Stunningly beautiful, Heard creates tiny heartbreaks for this girl who is both free and trapped, one of nature’s elite and yet possibly doomed.

The trailer for The Rum Diary was released a couple of weeks back and it features plenty of Amber Heard as the character of Chenault. It looks pretty good! Entertainment Weekly‘s August 19 issue has previewed the first still from The Rum Diary. The image showcases Amber Heard’s Chenault (looking gorgeous!) and Johnny Depp’s Paul Kemp.

Paul Kemp is a freelance journalist who finds himself at a critical turning point in his life while writing for a run-down newspaper in the Caribbean. Paul is challenged on many levels as he tries to carve out a more secure niche for himself amidst a group of lost souls all bent on self-destruction

The film releases on October 28, 2011.

It was announced today at CinemaCon, by Bob Berney, President, Theatrical Distribution that FilmDistrict will release The Rum Diary, based on the early Hunter S. Thompson novel that was ultimately published in 1998. It stars Johnny Depp and will be released on October 28, 2011. The film is directed by Bruce Robinson (Withnail and I) from his own screenplay and also stars Aaron Eckhart, Amber Heard, Michael Rispoli, Richard Jenkins and Giovanni Ribisi. The Rum Diary is produced by Infinitum Nihil, the production company headed by Depp and Christi Dembrowski, along with Graham King and Tim Headington. Anthony Rhulen and Robert Kravis also produce.

The Rum Diary tells the increasingly unhinged story of itinerant journalist Paul Kemp (Depp). Tired of the noise and madness of New York and the crushing conventions of late Eisenhower-era America, Kemp travels to the pristine island of Puerto Rico to write for a local San Juan newspaper run by the downtrodden editor Lotterman (Jenkins). Adopting the rum-soaked lifestyle of the late ‘50s version of Hemingway’s The Lost Generation, Paul soon becomes entangled with a very attractive American woman, Chenault (Heard) and her fiancée Sanderson (Eckhart), a businessman involved in shady property development deals. It is within this world that Kemp ultimately discovers his true voice as a writer and integrity as a man.
