Compared to most authors, onetime New York it-boy Bret Easton Ellis’s works have had a pretty good translation record at the cinema. American Psycho, The Rules of Attraction and Less Than Zero were all pretty faithful, quality adaptations that kept Ellis’s sensational penchant for drugs, kinky sex and sociopathic detachment intact. A tall order these days. Next in line is this fall’s The Informers. Not only did Ellis co-write the screenplay for his 1995 interlocked collection of twisted tales set in the ’80s, but the film easily has the coolest cast of any Ellis flick: Mickey Rourke, Kim Basinger, Winona Ryder, Billy Bob Thornton, Pineapple Express‘ Amber Heard and Brad Renfro’s last theatrical role.

Well, now it seems that the key element that made The Informers stand out from its darkly hedonistic pack, a good dose of the supernatural, including a vampire storyline starring Superman Returns‘ Brandon Routh as the book’s main vampire, Jamie, has either been “exorcised” or dumped altogether. Odd. Actor John Graham, who has a rather large role as the son to Thornton’s Hollywood exec, expressed dissonance about the film’s seemingly last minute change to IGN…

The ComingSoon.net Box Office Report has been updated with studio estimates for the weekend. Be sure to check back on Monday for final figures based on actual box office.

New independent distributor Summit Entertainment had their first significant hit with the mixed martial arts drama Never Back Down, which opened in third place with $8.6 million in 2,729 theaters, an average of $3,166 per theater, which isn’t great but enough to make more money this weekend than the stronger returning movies. The production budget was an estimated $20 million.

1. Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who ($45,100,000)
2. 10,000 BC ($16,415,000)
3. Never Back Down ($8,610,000)
4. College Road Trip ($7,893,000)
5. Vantage Point ($5,400,000)

Never Back Down has opened in in United States today be sure to go out to your local theatre and see it. (View more release dates). Riikka has added a few new stills from the film, thanks to Ally.

I just got back from checking the flick out and I found it enjoyable. It certainly wasn’t the worst movie I’ve seen, and I’m sure it has it’s audience that will really appreciate it. Those checking it out for Amber alone shouldn’t be disappointed - she looks nothing short of stunning in every shot with her long blonde locks, and she really did her best with the material and tried to flush Baja Miller out with more layers. I do wish her role would have been more prominent, but she does have a good deal of screentime.

There is a new theatrical trailer in high definition for Pineapple Express on AOL. This is an edited version, slightly different from the previous red band one. It actually shows less of Amber’s character, but atleast we get a big clear view of her now! HD Captures of her blink and miss it shot in the trailer have been added.

I have found a Never Back Down review from Variety, which specifically comments on Amber’s performance. On a general note the reviews for the film have been pretty critical so far - some examples of title lines for the reviews include “Never Back Down no knockout” (Jam! Showbiz), “Teen beatings never end in stupid Never Back Down” (Seattle Post Intelligencer) and “Never Back Down is weak, formulaic” (Huntington Herald Dispatch). See more reviews here. Obviously you should see it for yourself tomorrow and form your own opinion. ;)

Amber Heard, on the other hand, has to be seen to be believed. If there were an award for best coyly sexual biting of lower lip by an actress in a leading role, she would win it hands down. Heard plays Baja (yes!), the other side of the Jake-Ryan triangle, and isn’t done any favors by all the preposterous slow-mo entrances and babe-alicious posturing. There’s more than enough random flesh parading through Never Back Down that an actual performance by Heard (soon to be seen, and far more appreciated, in All the Boys Love Mandy Lane) would have been welcome. Never Back Down exists in a world of beautiful people, beautiful homes and much unoccupied money, where the rules of physics and physiology are on a serious vacation — the human body can’t do or withstand the things this movie claims it can, and one can only hope that pic’s probable success doesn’t trigger a dramatic rise in schoolyard body-slams, arm locks and chokeholds.

As earlier mentioned, Amber stopped by MTV’s TRL to promote Never Back Down with co-star Sean Faris. We have added 64 photos of beautiful Amber on the show. Unfortunately we don’t have a video of her on the program, so if anyone could supply us with her appearance some how, we would be very grateful!

I was delighted to find Amber among the pages of the April issue of Teen Vogue (Camilla Belle on the cover). Even better it’s a brand new photo and article! Miss Heard looks gorgeous! I have added the two page scans, photoshoot picture and transcribed the article for the library. In it Amber talks about her beauty favorites.

There was a new still from Never Back Down in the Teen Vogue Article and also a small picture of Amber in Allure March 2008.

Amber may be a natural beauty on the outside, but she hopes to prove that there’s more to her than meets the eye, just as her favorite actresses - Hilary Swank and Cate Blanchett - have done. “I want to challenge the audience’s perception of me,” She says.
