Giovanni Ribisi has joined the cast of The Rum Diary starring Johnny Depp, Amber Heard, Aaron Eckhart and Richard Jenkins. The film begins shooting March 30, 2009 in Puerto Rico.
According to Variety, he’ll play a carousing journalist in the Hunter S. Thompson adaptation.
Written and directed by Bruce Robinson, The Rum Diary details the life and events of Paul Kemp, a freelance journalist who finds himself at a critical turning point in his life while writing for a run-down newspaper in the Caribbean. Paul is challenged on many levels as he tries to carve out a more secure niche for himself amidst a group of lost souls all bent on self-destruction. Thompson delivers a potent story that pushes the sometimes brutal truth of human relations into your face in such a way that it would be absurd to not laugh.

The darkness has claimed two more souls.
Karl Urban and Oscar nominee Adriana Barraza (Babel) have been cast in the thriller remake And Soon the Darkness. They join Amber Heard and Odette Yustman in an update of the 1970 thriller, directed by first-timer Marcos Efron.
Abandon Pictures and StudioCanal are financing the project. Lizzie Friedman, Karen Lauder, Deborah Marcus and Chris Clark are producing. Flora Fernandez is executive producing, and Heard is co-producing.
The Argentina-set thriller follows two American girls on a bike trip in a remote part of the country. When one of them disappears, the other must find her before darkness falls and her worst fears are realized. The film is shooting on location in Argentina; the original was set in France.

From CinemaBlend.com:
Though it’s a dark comedy Exterminators actually comes off pretty light. It shies away from actually showing us most of the grisly murders and the few we do see are free of blood. It’s not a horror movie, more a relationship movie about three women hanging out, drinking martinis, oh and occasionally killing guys somewhere off camera. Alex is clearly the center of the movie, leaving her more interesting murderous friends as underdeveloped stereotypes, and we’re with her as she blinks into the camera and moons over the perfect guy.
From MyFoxAustin.com:
I was actually impressed with most of the acting in the film. And, I gotta be honest with you, I thought this movie was going to suck. So, I was pleasantly surprised when I found my self laughing out loud a few times.
Favorite line? As Jennifer and Amber’s characters walk into the Herb Bar (located on Mary just off of Congress) a woman exits and Jennifer says, “I think she douched with patchouli.”

It appears that none of the cast members attended the premiere of ExTerminators at SXSW. I did manage to find what appears to be the first review of the film at AvClub.com. Unfortunately, the review of the film is not entirely positive and it receives D+ as its grade but Amber Heard is given praise for her performance.
The bright spot is local actress Amber Heard (Pineapple Express), who has one of the movie’s best scenes, and shines as a genially psychotic young floozy. But she’s not enough to save the film, which is a chick flick dressed up like a black comedy and isn’t very good at either.
Hopefully we’ll manage to find some more reviews soon. While waiting, check out a couple of ExTerminators production stills in the gallery.

Amber is featured in the April 2009 issue of Esquire magazine, in the “Funny Joke from a Beautiful Woman” section. We’ve seen the picture before but her joke is a funny one. Thanks to Tona for sharing the scan.
If anyone spots Amber promoting The Informers in any other magazines this month, do not hesitate to let us know!

Big thanks to Amber Heard’s publicist for setting the record straight that it is, in fact, not Amber Heard who appears in a scene in the film Sex Drive. That is just a girl who happens to look like Amber. We apologize for the false information and stand corrected.

Our friend Mariana has translated some interesting quotes from Amber’s Italian GQ article for us. She is asked about working with Johnny Depp, her religious upbringing, and being a sex symbol, and, as usual, gives great answers to these questions.
In short, how is it to work with Johnny Depp?
It’s cool, is it enough?
I know, it’s the typical idiotic question, but he’s Johnny Depp. Can you make a little effort?
Ok. Then I’ll admit that I’m really happy, excited. But I won’t be telling you that when I was growing up I saw all of Johnny Depp’s films because it isn’t true. In fact, at the moment I may not be able to recall one out of all. But this is exactly his strength: he built a formidable artistic career without linking his image to a particular work. I respect enormously his integrity, his choices, the authenticity he’s known to bring into this craft. It’s a qualification that goes beyond Hollywood and the traditional way that people usually judge actors.

Miss Amber Heard takes the March 2009 cover of Italian edition of GQ… And, oh my, what a smokin’ hot and fresh photoshoot it is! It is Amber’s first cover of the year and, besides last year’s FHM UK, her first major cover story in Europe! Inside of the magazine Amber talks about working with Johnny Depp in the upcoming The Rum Diary. Hopefully we will get some quotes translated shortly.
I have uploaded HQ scans of the magazine the gallery. We will be replacing these with our original scans in the near future. Meanwhile, enjoy the eye candy!
